As Seen On TV – The Magic Mesh is cool but not actual magic

Magic Mesh As Seen On TV

Bare with me on this one, it’s gonna get real meshy. The “Magic Mesh” comes as advertised – a screen door you never have to open, and never have to close. Yup, America’s Funniest Home Videos just had a heartattack. No more videos of people walking into screen doors for us to laugh at.

Or is there?

The infomercial starts off by telling us the Magic Mesh is really cool, and immediately comes clean by confessing that the ‘magic’ part is just a bunch magnets. 18 of them. Nice.

The second best thing is when they educate us on how easy it will be to install without nails, screws or expensive tools. One word. Velcro.

Magic Magic Magic!

When you take the Magic Mesh home, you’ll realize it doesn’t look as good as it appeared on TV. You might also notice that it also doesn’t magically snap back together like it does on TV either. And to top it off, halfway through assembling it,  you’ll realize that you didn’t get enough of that Magic Velcro to attach it to anything and keep any bugs out at all. And just about the time you are almost finished assembling it, you’ll realize that you won’t be able to resell this on craigslist.

I can only imagine that teaching a Boston Terrier to make his way through a screen door by forgetting everything it learned about running through a screen door in the first place to be pretty hard. Kinda like Indiana Jones taking that first step on the invisible bridge in the Temple of Doom.

After my laughter subsided I began to wonder if this was actually a good invention, but was immediately distracted by the saddest dog of all time reluctantly using the magic mesh.

Dog and Magic Mesh

All in all the magic mesh is a cool invention, but it will take years of unlearning for us to naturally walk into a screen door without the emotional side effects, thus making this product pretty crappy. But don’t take my word for it.

See the infomercial for yourself.

And if you feel like taking a leap of faith, get your Magic Mesh here
