The best keychain for skippers saves your stuff from drowning

This cool keychain is more than just a keychain. Recently appearing on the popular Canadian TV show for inventors and entrepreneurs, the Waterbuoy is the first self-inflating keychain. Once it’s dropped into the water the sensor automatically inflates a balloon and floats your stuff back to the surface. And it’s orange.

The inflated balloon can float up to 1KG of weight, which is a lot. So even if you are a Janitor and you have 250 keys it’s got you covered.

If that wasn’t enough to float your boat, the device also has a flashing super bright LED light to shine up to 250m if you drop your stuff overboard at night. And, if you think the rocky water or biting fish are going to pop your balloon, it’s super thick so it’s unlikely to pop.

This balloon does come with some OneMoreGadget warnings. We noticed that it’s pretty sensitive to water, but only water and not snow – it has to be completely submerged.

OneMoreGadget Warnings:

• This is dangerous if you put it in your mouth. It may sound funny at first to watch a balloon inflate inside someone’s head but it’s actually pretty disturbing.

• This item only inflates once. So even though it’s really tempting to try it out when you get it, you’ll be pissed when you realize this after you do it.

• This is dangerous if you put it in other wet places. This includes really sweaty cracks.

Not “the first self-inflating keychain.” Davis Instruments has had one for years, called the Key Buoy. It is sensitive to water and dampness, and it can only float 80 grams (not the 1000 grams of the Key Buoy.)

The Waterbuoy is a superior product, in my estimation, but it’s not the first.

Oh, the Key Buoy is orange as well.
